2021 Acclivity CABERNET SAUVIGNON
91 Points Wine Enthusiast
Rich black fruit, coffee and earth aromas waft from the glass of this Cabernet, while intense plum, blackberry, pepper and mocha flavors mingle on the palate. This is a rich and textural effort, with plush, well-resolved tannin and balancing acidity. -T.R.C.
THE VINEYARD
The Acclivity Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are cultivated in Alexander Valley, renowned for its exceptional Bordeaux varietals in Sonoma County. Nestled on the western slopes of the Mayacamas mountain range, our vineyard enjoys a stunning southwest-facing exposure. This distinctive location, with its thin, rocky soils, encourages the vines to flourish while preserving their rich varietal character and natural acidity. The region's warm days and cool nights create an ideal climate, allowing the vineyard to produce wines of remarkable quality and elegance.
NOTES
FROM THE WINEMAKER
The 2021 growing season was marked by a relatively mild spring, with consistent temperatures and good bud break. Summer temperatures were warm but not extreme, allowing for steady vine growth. Harvest started earlier than usual, with high-quality fruit reflecting balanced acidity and concentrated flavors, despite some drought conditions.
The 2021 Acclivity Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic expression of the hillside terroir in Alexander Valley. Brimming with ripe strawberries, boysenberry, red currant, black trumpet mushrooms, cedar, graphite, chocolate-covered espresso beans and a whisper of green tea. The full-bodied palate is round and inviting, exuding layers of ripe berries, baking spice, dried herbs and lifting acidity. Muscular but well-integrated tannins showcase the gravitas of the vintage.
